Maruti Suzuki Fronx – Best SUV for middle class families

Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Maruti Suzuki has stirred the Indian car market all over again with a new compact crossover, the Fronx which seamlessly fuses SUV-like styling with hatchback-like convenience.

Planned with a rising trend in demand for sub-compact SUVs in mind, the Fronx is based on the proven and tested Baleno underpinnings and is designed with bolder essence. It’s not just another bucket of bolts with a hatch on the back, rather it brings a new vibe for urban drivers who want some style, efficiency, utility — all in a tidy, small package.

Let’s dissect what the Fronx offers and see if it lives up to the hype.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Design and Styling

The Fronx’s striking styling is one of the first things you’ll see. It takes its cues from larger SUVs, which gives it a more rugged appearance despite its small size. The commanding road presence comes from elements such as the bold grille, sculpted bonnet, the upright nose and the suaving LED DRLs.

The sloped roofline and meaty wheel arches are nice bits of sporty spice, too, and one that’s difficult to ignore.

Tethering the back together are linked LED tail lamps and a nicely sculpted bumper.

But the Fronx doesn’t look like it’s trying too hard, even though it’s under 4 meters long. It wears its style with confidence and that’s an aspect buyers in this segment will welcome.

Interior and Features

Get in to the Fronx and it’s clear that Maruti has upped their game. The dual tone dashboard is neatly designed and some of the trims come with a soft touch finish.

The 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system is a highlight, providing wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. There’s also a Head-Up Display (HUD), wireless charger, 360-degree camera and connected car tech.

Although the design may sound familiar to Baleno owners, Maruti has made enough changes to make it feel different. There’s a good amount of room for passengers in both rows, though three adults in the back seat might feel pressed for space.

The 308-litre boot is useful for everyday requirements, and the rear seats fold flat for larger luggage.

Engine and Performance

Engine options for the Fronx included two petrol options. To begin with, there’s the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine that puts out 89 bhp and comes with a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. It makes the Pulsar great for city use and offers good fuel economy figures – 22.9 km/l (ARAI).

You also get an optional 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine that makes 100 bhp and comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. It’s punchy, sophisticated, and gives this thing a level of fun-to-drive that is all too often absent in this segment.

The ride quality is nicely set according to Indian conditions. It also soaks up potholes and speed breakers quite comfortably and is quite stable even at highway speeds.

Safety and Tech

Fronx gets several safety features such as six airbags (depending on trim level), ABS with EBD, ESP with hill hold, ISOFIX child seat mounts and a 360-degree camera. Now, while an official crash test rating has not yet been announced, Maruti says the Fronx is compliant with the new safety norms.

Pros of Maruti Suzuki Fronx

Head-turning Design: SUV-like design to help you stand out in a crowd.
Peppy And Fuel Efficient: Both engines are quite frugal and give good fuel efficiency but the 1.2ltr is amazing.
Feature Packed: HUD, and wireless charging, and 360 camera — it comes with all the contemporary tech.
Silk Automatic Options – Ideal for urban situations.
Maruti Reliable: It gives you peace of mind with a very good service network.

Cons of Maruti Suzuki Fronx

Not So Refined: Lacks the majority of diesel buyers and their long-term economy.
Squeeze For Three In Back: Backseat best for two adults.
Boosterjet Price Premium: A tad expensive in the Turbo guise.
Construction Perception: Still feels light; some buyers might want it to feel more robust.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Final Thoughts

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx offers more than just good looks. It’s a compelling package that should appeal to modern Indian buyers.

If you are a first time car buyer or are ready to move onwards and upwards from a small hatchback, then the Fronx is a winner in terms of design, performance, features and economy.

It’s not flawless, sure, but in a crowded field, it’s head and shoulders above the competition — figuratively and, well, also literally.
