MG Gloster 2025: Launched in Indian market, the MG Gloster 2025 is a product that is a full-size, rugged looking SUV that wants to luxury with its dominant stance, luxurious cabin and tech laden first approach.
The Gloster isn’t just MG’s top-spec offering for India, and it’s not just a rival beater either—it’s a judge-destroyer thanks to its sheer size and its long list of kit.
Amidst its brawny competitors – primarily the Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq, the Gloster 2025 sits contently, providing a luxury SUV experience at an unbeatable price.
MG Gloster 2025 Design: Rugged Elegance
At first glance, the Gloster is all power. It is tall, wide, has great road presence. For 2025, that means a redesigned front grille that now comes with a darker, more premium finish, new LED headlamps with adaptive lighting, as well as new bumpers for a sportier appearance.
Chrome touches are liberally applied — but thoughtfully, not rampantly. From the hunkered down stance to the rather proud “GLOSTER” badging across the tailgate, it’s evident that the MG wants this SUV to feel and look like a statement on wheels.
Interior: Classy Touches and Plenty of Room
Step inside and the MG Gloster is even more impressive. Step in and you’re met by a luxurious, well-equipped cabin that has quilted leather seat covering, soft-touch panels, and brushed-metal accents.
The dashboard is dominated by a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s both slicker and less tacked on looking than the setup it replaces, and which comes with a full digital driver display.
Second-row seating is first class with the 6-seater captain seat configuration, which feels almost lounge-esque. The 7-seater version is more practical for bigger families. Rear passengers have plenty of legroom, climate control vents and a panoramic sunroof up top that makes the cabin feel airy.
Boot space is reasonable, not great, with all three rows up — but that’s par for the course with full-size SUVs.
Performance: Diesel Muscle, With 4×4 Grit
The Gloster soldiers on with the 2.0-litre diesel engine, offered in two states of tune:
Single Turbo (163 PS, 375 Nm)
Twin Turbo (218 PS, 480 Nm)
It’s a responsive pairing but that twin-turbo, in particular, is obviously the gutsier set-up, especially when you’re asking for some extra punch to overtake or hit the hilly bits with a fair bit of family on board. The throttle response is refined and daily use gear shifts are hardly noticed.
The Gloster’s ace up its sleeve is its live 4WD system with terrain modes (Snow, Sand, Mud, Rock), which means it has the skills for some weekend off-roading, though truth be told, the vast majority of buyers won’t stray too far from the tarmac.
Ride and Handling: Soft, Not Sporty
The Gloster rides nicely, especially on open roads. It floats over potholes and cushions undulations without harshness. Its ladder-on-frame chassis and long wheelbase give it a sure- footed feel at high speeds.
But its bulk is apparent in close city quarters. Post-Opinion Parking and maneuvering requires a cool head and lots of sensors. MG lends a hand in this department, too, with auto park assist, a curio in this segment.
Tech and Safety Ahead of Its Class
MG has filled the Gloster with tech that easily matches the German premium SUVs. Features include:
ADAS level 2 with adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and emergency braking
360-degree camera
Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, wireless charging
14-speaker audio system
Driver tiredness indication, TPMS, auto hold
Six airbags, ABS with EBD and hill-descent control
Few competitors at this price point offer that kind of gear.
Pros:
High levels of Road presence and superior Design
Luxurious, spacious cabin with captain seat option
Packed with segment-first features and ADAS tech
Small twin-turbo diesel is strong and smooth
Terrain modes with 4WD system that works a treat
Excellent highway cruiser
Cons:
City driving is difficult due to its size
No petrol or hybrid powertrains from the Land of the Rising Sun!
Smallish boot with all seats up
A little bit of body roll in corners
Expensive top trims could scare off value-conscious shoppers
